Where exactly to you live? people often ask me having never heard of this
beautiful region of Central Italy. East over the mountains from Assisi, I
reply or, west over the sea from Dubrovnik. There usually follows a silence
as they navigate their memories and then usually they say, so how do I get
there?
Here is how to get here:
BY PLANE
Ancona is the regional airport, with direct daily flights from London,
Liverpool and internal connecting flights from Rome and Milan.
Pescara and Perugia airports, both approx 2 hr drive from central Marche.
Bologna airport 3 hrs. Rome International airports 3.5 hrs.
Please check each airport for carriers and flight timetables.
BY TRAIN
Eurostar, intercity and regional trains arrive at the Marche coastal
stations from where you can catch a connection to anywhere in Italy and into
Europe.
BY CAR
The A14 Bologna-Bari autostrada runs along the Adriatic coast and is the
fastest route to Marche if arriving from North or South. The A24 from Rome
is the direct connection to the A14. Or if you prefer to travel the quieter
roads, buy yourself the Touring Club d'Italia Map and enjoy the scenery,
towns and villages along the slow route to Marche.
BY BUS
The Rome daily service is swift, comfortable and is a relaxed, economic way to reach Marche
from the capital. Rome-Fermo 4 hrs.
BY BOAT
You can sail into the port of Ancona from Croatia and Greece. There are
several ferry companies sailing daily. Check for current times.
