Fermo is one of Le Marche's quiet gems, a small medieval town high on a hill overlooking the Adriatic sea. It is a place of cobbled streets, fine architecture, pre-roman and gothic facades, dusky convents, ancient churches, elegant porticos, excellent bars, fine restaurants, roman cisterns, an exquisite theatre, a season of cultural events, well-travelled visitors, bustling markets and kind, hospitable people. It is my favourite town in Le Marche.
